About Us...

Sometimes in life, your journey leads you to the place of your heart and for us, we didn’t know that place was Kruger Park, until we made it our home.

The pursuit of peace and quiet inspired us to leave the chaos of the world behind to start a new life in the bush. For the first 8 years of our time here, we built and ran a lodge in Marloth Park and offered safaris in Kruger Park. It was a wonderful time of discovery, of meeting awesome new people and sharing our love of nature with others.

In 2023 serious health challenges and a miraculous return from the dead for Mark, led to the sale of our lodge, and an intentional choice to just spend every day immersed in the wild beauty of this amazing place we call home, and sharing it with other nature-lovers around the world.

Of course, an incurable safari addiction like ours means spending a LOT of time out in nature and you just never know what you might see. If you have time and patience, nature shows you her secrets – some are harsh, others are beautiful, but all are indescribably magical. Every single day we learn more about the mind-blowing intracies of nature and we are humbled by the order and rythms of the wild.

Our passion for photography has grown exponentially with every safari adventure and we count it a privilege to be able to document our adventures through our photos and videos, and to share them with our fellow nature-lovers around the globe who can’t be here every day.

Mark is a qualified ranger and Gail is a qualified guide, but the best teacher is nature, and her lessons are unending. We have our personal favorites too – for Gail it’s the monkeys and the baboons (and you can read more about how Mark and Gail saved the life of a chimp called Missy, here). For Mark, one favorite is hard to choose, as the lions and leopards are constantly vying for his endorsement as favorites:-)

We’re serious about safaris, which means you won’t find a touristy safari at Exploring Kruger. Instead, you’ll find an uncharted adventure into the wild. We don’t mind going off the beaten track – we don’t mind sitting quietly while a leopard takes a nap in the arms of a tree before tucking into its fresh lunch, and we don’t mind going in search of butterflies…

So, if you dream of exploring the world-famous Kruger, and REALLY experiencing her wild heart, Exploring Kruger is for you. We offer exclusive safaris that are perfect for serious nature-lovers, birders and photographers.

In the words of Kruger Park’s first warden, James Hamilton Stevenson, we like to “keep it wild – keep it simple”. We hope you’ll join us!
